Public Art

Alive with History

In partnership with Symmes Township, ArtWorks has transformed a community park maintenance building into a work of art. A reflection of the community itself, this mural celebrates Symmes and all that it offers its residents and visitors. Designed by Northern Kentucky native, Lucie Rice, this wrap-around mural takes viewers on a journey through Symmes history. From its early days of farming and millwork, to iconic mid 19th century landmarks such as the Ross Family Log Cabin, Waldschmidt Homestead, Camp Dennison and C. Meade House, the mural also references the beautiful and beloved natural environment and outdoor activities that many Symmes residents know and love. This mural was painted by the residents of Symmes Township alongside ArtWorks’ professional artists and Youth Apprentice team led under the direction of Lead Teaching Artist Jim Effler, and Jr. Teaching Artist Braylyn Bell.
