Artist Talk: Join us for a special artist talk with Caleb Charland! October 5, 2012, 6 pm, Art Academy of Cincinnati.
About this Project: Cincinnati Constellation is a photography-based project that was inspired by Caleb Charland’s previous work, “Black Dots on My Palms Anywhere Lines Crossed, Scanned and Inverted to Look Like Stars.” In this work, he (as the title of the piece implies) marked the intersections of lines on his palms with black dots, then took a digital scan of his palm, and inverted the colors so that the resulting image resembled a starry night sky. Envisioned as a constellation of stars, this new installation assembles thousands of handprints to mirror the night sky. Cincinnati Constellation was created with the engagement of over 1,000 local residents. Teenage ArtWorks Apprentice Artists set up shop at Findlay Market throughout the summer to engage shoppers and visitors in this artmaking process. Read Charland's Artist Statement
The final images have been printed on fabric and hung from the rafters of Findlay Market. It will be on display through December 2012!
