FreedomWorks

in partnership with the Cincinnati Art Museum

A project of the 2004 ArtWorks Summer Program

  • On exhibit: The New Acquisitions Gallery at the Cincinnati Art Museum, 953 Eden Park Dr., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 - Mt. Adams
  • October 2004 - March 2005
Internationally renowned guest artist Tim Rollins worked with Apprentice Artists for two weeks in the creation of three, large-scale, mixed media works based on freedom, cooperation, courage, and perseverance. Inspiration was drawn from celebrated literature, spirituals, "freedom songs," and abolitionist writings. Local Artist Thom Shaw also worked with Apprentices on woodcut prints based on their own personal views of freedom. The works were exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum for four months in the fall of 2004, coinciding with the grand opening of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. The Cincinnati Art Museum has since acquired pieces created during FreedomWorks that have become part of the Museum's permanent collection.
