"Dottin' the Hill"

painting

  • 2901 Gilbert Ave.  Cincinnati, OH 45206, Easter Seals Work Resource Center in Walnut Hills
  • A project of the 2007 ArtWorks Summer Program
  • Mural dedicated September 2007

Like a ribbon, the Walnut Hills mural wraps around the bottom part of the Easter Seals Work Resource Center. With dark red buildings and a cream-colored sky the mural is both concrete and whimsical—the buildings depicted in the skyline can each be found in Walnut Hills. Bubbling over all of this are teal, gray, and pink polka dots filled with iconic symbols of Walnut Hills such as a pattern from the wallpaper at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House and silhouettes of Easter Seals employees.

Early in the summer, Walnut Hills Apprentices walked around the neighborhood, sketchbooks in hand, seeking inspiration for the different symbols they would come to use. These were incorporated into designs of the mural that now graces Walnut Hills like a fanciful reflection.
