Cincinnati mural will honor Lawrenceville native, boxing legend Ezzard Charles

June 18, 2015, Gwinnett Daily Post

One of Gwinnett’s most renowned athletes will be the subject of a large mural in his other hometown, Cincinnati.

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Ezzard Charles, who was born in Lawrenceville and moved to Cincinnati when he was 9, will be featured by ArtsWorks, a non-profit that produced 100 murals in the city since its foundation in 2007.

Charles’ mural will be painted soon at 1537 Republic Street and is entitled “The Cincinnati Cobra,” an homage to the boxer’s nickname during his professional career. The artwork, part of the Cincinnati Legends Series, will be headed up by lead artist Jason Snell and Artworks, which employs youth apprentices on its projects. Painting is expected to begin this month and be completed by August.
