Announcing Red, White & Shoe 2008
The 7th Annual Blast (formerly known as the Hyde Park Blast) will be held on Saturday, June 28th and combines a 5k run/walk, cycle event and evening kids races that precede the family-oriented block party on the Square. As always, our mission is to -- support the fight against the evil enemy, cancer by motivating families and friends in this great city of Cincinnati to get active.
ArtWorks is teaming up with The Blast for the 2008 Red, White & Shoe Event. We are asking artists to artfully embellish a Nike sneaker for an exhibition at Malton Gallery the week before the Blast event and a silent auction to be held Thursday, June 26th. The beneficiaries of this event include the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Artworks.
A panel of judges will be awarding 5 prizes to the top 5 shoes, including:
‘Best in Shoe’. $200 grand prize
2nd Place $100
3rd Place $75
2 Honorable Mentions $25 each
All participants will be provided with a Nike shoe and display stand to decorate and a commemorative Blast tote bag to keep. In order to receive the honorarium and be considered for the awards, all artists must adhere to the following rules:
1. The Shoe MUST retain its original shape
2. MUST show the Nike Logo/swoosh
3. MUST fit on the display stand provided with the shoe. (Display stands themselves MAY be decorated)
4. Be appropriate for public viewing
5. Artists must be able to pick up and drop off their shoe at Artworks downtown or the Malton Gallery in Hyde Park.
6. Artists may pick up their shoe beginning on Thursday, May 9, 2008
7. Shoes must be returned to Artworks or the Malton Gallery by Friday, June 13, 2008
8. The shoe can be themed as follows: “Blasting cancer,” Cincinnati-centric or specific to the sponsoring business if you are a sponsored artist.
There are a total of 40 shoes available for artists to embellish. A select number of artists will be chosen to work with sponsor companies in the creation of their embellished shoes. Artists who are ‘sponsored’ by a company will receive a $50 honorarium in addition to being eligible for the awards.
