Apprentices worked to create new pieces of art inspired by the works in the collection at the Taft Museum of Art. Working with fabric, clay and lots of thread, these fiber-happy Apprentices set about deciding whether they would create a pillow, apron, doll, or in some cases all three. Of course, before this happened, the whole project toured the Taft Museum: looking at the different works of art, learning about the museum itself, and the story behind it—the fact that the Taft was once a grand party house.
Once the Sew Taft Apprentices began, though, they began with a vengeance. The amount that got done in a day at Sew Taft was amazing—within a week the room was beginning to fill up with embroidered fabric, the wire skeletons of in-progress dolls, and laughter.
In the end, all of these components came together to result in a gallery of once-familiar pieces transformed through dazzling new interpretations, beautiful works of art. |
