Work began on September 23, 2019, on a new ArtWorks mural which is transforming a well-known corner of Downtown Cincinnati. The new mural, located at 7th and Vine Street, is by Detroit-based artist Louise “Ouizi” Jones (formerly Chen). Jones is known for her large-scale floral murals and has completed mural across the country.
Ouizi is expected to continue her work into next week, pending weather conditions, and the mural will feature bright, colorful flowers. It will be completed before BLINK®, illuminated by ArtsWave, the October 10-13 art, light and culture event to take place in downtown Cincinnati, Over-the-Rhine and Covington, Ky.
“We are excited to work at this location,” Tamara Harkavy, ArtWorks artistic director, and CEO said. “We’ve wanted to have a mural on this wall for a long time. It is the main focal point to the community, and we felt Ouizi’s style and subject matter would complement our other mural on this block. We’re very grateful to Ouizi to have her complete this mural before BLINK.”
Ouizi is a painter, best known for her large scale floral mural installations which can be seen in public spaces throughout the United States, from museums to public parks. Her mural techniques are uniquely informed by a background in drawing and printmaking, and she cites the painter Georgia O’Keeffe as an inspiration for her work with flowers.
