Arts, Culture and Historic Buildings: How Creative Placemaking Promotes Urban Vitality

October 21, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

$50

Jamie Bennett, ArtPlace Executive Director will highlight the ways in which the arts can play an intentional and integrated role in place-based community planning and development. This brings artists, arts organizations, and artistic activity into the suite of place making strategies that promote community development as locally informed, human-centric, and holistic activity.

Many of the arts based initiatives ArtPlace America has supported occur within historic settings. The relationship between the art activities and their historic settings provide place specific opportunities which have been utilized in creative ways. Mr. Bennett will present examples of successful art based placemaking projects and outline how the arts, culture and creative interventions have contributed toward intentional community outcomes.
