SUMMARY:Matter Matters Opening
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of colorful straws assembled into an abstract arrangement. Fifty pool noodles arranged on a wall to create a dynamic sculpture. Artist Amelia Key elevates and transforms ordinary objects into beautiful creations by composing collections of everyday ephemera into artworks. This assortment of pieces that creatively incorporate waste materials to highlight their impact on daily life and the environment will be exhibited at Matter Matters in the ArtWorks V2 Gallery from July 28 to September 15. \nArtWorks is holding a free public opening reception on Friday\, July 28\, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the V2 Gallery. Registrations are requested but not required. \nKey and the group of artists worked hard to create a meaningful dialogue about plastic\, waste\, the environment\, and the intricate relationship between materials and concepts. Materials used in the works on view came from a variety of sources\, including the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub\, LaSoupe\, SIGHT Eyecare and Eyewear in Wyoming\, and individual donations. \nLearn more

SUMMARY:Perspectives Mural Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Perspectives is a photo-based mixed media mural that celebrates black iconography\, culture\, expression\, and joy. Produced in partnership by Mz. Icar\, an anonymous interdisciplinary art collective\, and ArtWorks\, Perspectives is informed by the collection of oral histories and archival photographs from residents of Walnut Hills\, a Cincinnati neighborhood with an incredibly rich black history. The creation process of the work includes not only neighborhood engagement\, but also the employment of six local Youth Apprentices under the mentorship of both Mz. She believes that change doesn’t happen when important information and topics are made more palatable for any audience. Nytaya believes in order to be a decisive artist that is committed to serving the community she has to engage with what makes her uncomfortable. \nAbout Wet Paint:\nWet Paint by ArtWorks is a quarterly event series that offers a look behind the scenes of the organization’s upcoming projects\, centering on the artists who make our city vibrant. Since 1996\, ArtWorks has employed over 7\,000 youth and creative professionals\, annually investing around $1.5 million in wages for artists. For the first time ever\, ArtWorks is inviting the public to learn firsthand about the experience of creating public art and other arts-based projects from the Apprentice Artists and project designers. Each event will feature a series of talks for Apprentice artists and highlight one project designer from the season in an artist talk and Q&A at the event.
