Raising Our Flags for Community Heroes

Because of the challenges we’re all facing this year, ArtWorks’ Hero Design Company decided to change up its popular sewing projects. The team transitioned from creating capes to create both face masks and flags celebrating local heroes.

Earlier this summer, we asked the community to nominate their heroes, and you came through! ArtWorks received inspiring nominations telling the remarkable stories of 50 local heroes. Under the guidance of professional artist Lindsey Whittle, 10 Youth Apprentices worked remotely for more than 4 weeks starting in July to create these honorary flags that tell the stories of these amazing community members.

Now complete, the Hero Flags flew on display on September 26 on Central Parkway downtown. Many downtown visitors came to see the 6-hour installation in the brisk fall weather.

Soon we will be mailing these artfully designed and personalized flags to our community  heroes to let them know how much they are valued.
