ArtWorks in partnership with The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Ohio (NSCDA-OH), as part of America250, is delighted to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists to design a new memorial in Eden Park honoring women veterans.

NSCDA is a women’s organization focused on historic preservation, patriotic service, and education. As part of America’s 250th anniversary, NSCDA-OH is gifting the City of Cincinnati a memorial recognizing women whose service and sacrifice have sustained our nation for 250 years.

This new memorial will reimagine the weathered 1985 foot marker plaque currently located near the larger Vietnam Veterans Memorial. NSCDA-OH envisions a welcoming, inclusive, permanent, and engaging memorial that reflects the many roles held by women in military service and stands in comparable dialogue with the adjacent monument.

Request for Qualifications (RFQ)

This is a two-phase design process beginning with the RFQ and expanding to an invitation and stipend-based Request for Proposal/Designs for selected semi-finalists. One finalist artist will be selected to advance their proposal with an additional design stipend to finalize design(s) and project plans.

Artists should consider:

  • An approximately 7’ round footprint at Eden Park

  • Site A (front-facing only) or Site B (360-degree viewing)

  • An intimate viewpoint from ground level, not to exceed 7’ tall

  • Permanent, durable, and easy-to-maintain materials

  • Clear pedestrian access, no climbing, no physical interaction encouraged, and no electricity
